Just over two months away, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games promise to be a thrilling edition full of surprises.
Starting with the opening ceremony, which, for the first time in history, will not take place in a stadium: on July 26, thousands of athletes will parade along the Seine, a stunning backdrop and symbol of the French capital.
The program confirms disciplines from the Tokyo 2020 Games and introduces one new discipline making its Olympic debut.
Rhythm and Agility Take Paris 2024 Olympic Stage
Five years after France recognized breakdancing as a high-level sport, it will make its Olympic debut.
The 32 qualified athletes will compete at the iconic Place de la Concorde on August 9 and 10, split into 16 B-Girls and 16 B-Boys.
The origins of breakdancing, also known as breaking, date back to the 1970s when it spread throughout New York, specifically in the Bronx, as part of the Hip Hop culture.
Its style, characterized by fast and spectacular movements, has led it to be universally regarded as an art form.
Waves of Emotion in Tahiti
Included in the Olympic program starting from Tokyo 2020, surfing has more than 35 million enthusiasts worldwide.
Common among the inhabitants of the Hawaiian Islands since the 15th century, it began to gain international recognition in the 1950s.
Tahiti, the largest island of French Polynesia, will host the competitions among 24 surfers.
The events will take place from July 27 to 29 in the village of Teahupo’o, a renowned stop on the World Surf League championship, where one of the world’s most challenging waves, the famous Teahupo’o Wave, forms.
Urban Agility on Four Wheels
The quintessential urban sport, skateboarding, is extremely popular among the youth.
It debuted successfully at the last Olympics, where thirteen-year-old Momiji Nishiya from Japan won gold, becoming one of the youngest.
Place de la Concorde will host skateboarding events on July 27-28 and August 6-7 for Street events and Park events.
Speed, technique, creativity, and control will be crucial for performing the most beautiful tricks.
The Vertigo of Ascent in Paris 2024
Finally, sport climbing will also be present in Paris, but with a new format compared to Tokyo.
The Bourget Sport Climbing will host speed and the combined boulder and lead events, doubling the titles available.
The competitions, from August 5 to 10, will challenge athletes, for example, to climb a 15-meter-high wall in less than 6 seconds or in 6 minutes, without knowing the route, and a 4.5-meter wall to tackle without a rope.
Furthermore, worldwide, the number of practitioners of this discipline continues to grow exponentially, as does its audience.
So, here‘s the Official Paris 2024 Schedule!
